An intelligent person is quick to comprehend and understand, has a high mental capacity, has the ability to reason clearly. An intellectual person has not only a high degree of understanding but also a clear, distinct, and active taste and capacity for higher forms of knowledge. An animal can be intelligent but not intellectual; a distinguished professor is intellectual and is presumed to be intelligent.
